“Tuesdays with Morrie” is one of my favorite books of all time. It’s a classic, based on a true story, and deeply moving. The story follows a journalist who reconnects with his former college professor, Morrie Schwartz, who is battling ALS. Every Tuesday, the journalist visits Morrie to interview him, but those interviews evolve into profound life lessons.
What makes this book so special to me is how it gently reminds us of what truly matters in life. In the rush of our daily routines, it’s easy to forget that our greatest gifts are our health and the people we love.
There’s one question from the book that’s stayed with me ever since I first read it: “If you had 24 hours to live and you were healthy, how would you spend it?”
Morrie answered that he would host a big dinner party with his closest friends and family. They’d play music, share stories, eat delicious food, and laugh. And at the end of the night, they’d dance—because Morrie loved dancing.
I remember reading that and thinking, Yes—that’s exactly what I would do too.
Once you strip away the stress, the money, the titles, and all the daily obligations, what’s left? Our health and the people we love. And if we’re lucky, we’re surrounded by enough love to melt away life’s problems, even if just for a little while.
Since reading that book, I’ve made it a tradition to host a version of that dinner party every year—a celebration, a Friendsgiving, something special. A night where we simply eat, laugh, dance, and enjoy each other’s presence. I don’t want to wait until I’m told I have 24 hours to live to experience that kind of joy.
And the best part? These nights become lasting memories not just for me, but for the people I love.
So if you’re feeling stuck, searching for meaning, or caught up in the hamster wheel of life—I encourage you to read Tuesdays with Morrie. It’s a beautiful reminder to live fully, love deeply, and celebrate often.
