I stopped writing goals… and started living differently

Vision Over Goals

I've always been the kind of person who sets goals. Over the years, I've explored different strategies to set bigger goals, devoured books, and enrolled in countless programs and courses to learn how to achieve them. One of the biggest goals I ever set was to retire at 42. I came close, I retired at 43.

This morning, after my meditation, I had a realization. I used to write down my goals religiously and review them daily, but I haven’t been doing that lately. When I thought about why, it became clear: I only have one purposeful goal right now, and I have been fully focused on making space for it. (I will share what that goal is once I reach it.)

Then another thought hit me, I have pretty much met all my major life goals. Any new goals would simply be about wanting more: more money, more homes, more vacations. More, more, more. And suddenly, that felt exhausting.

I looked around at my life, my home, my family, my friends, my time, and everything that fills my heart, and I felt truly fulfilled. In the past, I would have immediately started chasing the next big thing, pushing myself into another race for more. I now realize that was because I was looking for my self worth in those achievements.

Today, instead of setting goals, I have a vision.

This vision is like a story or a movie that plays in my mind. Every time I close my eyes, I can see it clearly. It connects my heart, my mind, and my purpose. People often tell me that whenever I want something, it magically appears. And it is true. But I have come to understand, it was always there.

I believe that things in life flow like a river. When you have a vision, you gain clarity on what fits within it. Everything — people, opportunities, money, jobs, experiences — flows like a river of options. You do not have to chase or force things. Instead, you simply step into that river, recognize what aligns with your vision, and pull it out.

So what happens when you have met your goals and are living your vision? You relish it. You give thanks for it. You live in abundance, knowing that whatever you need is always within reach. The key is to have a vision for your life, not just a set of goals, but a deep, clear, heart centered vision that guides you.

When you have that, you no longer feel the need to constantly strive for more. You trust the flow. And you know that the river will always provide.
